An important milestone for WGR was achieved recently, as the regauged bogies for our ex Queensland Rail loco DH37 were delivered to Walhalla by rail ex Thomson. DH37 has languished at Walhalla for over a decade pending availability of funds to completely restore it for service – the works are being carried out with financial support from the Victorian Government, WGR and some very generous donors – greatly appreciated.
Behind the scenes, there has been a huge amount of activity getting parts repaired/replaced off site – much of it by local engineering providers in the Latrobe Valley. In the next few weeks, DH37 will be towed on its first WGR journey to Thomson where it will be fitted out, body repaired and painted in gleaming new paint.
